Cinderella's stepsisters are also invited and they happily plan what they would wear on the day. Cinderella, while helping them (she has to), dreams of going to the ball. But she is taunted by her sisters. They tell her that she is a maid and a maid cannot attend the dance.

The sisters go to the dance, Cinderella weeps and weeps. Magically, her Fairy Godmother appears. She says that she would help her and would send her to the ball. She turns a pumpkin into a coach, mice into horses, a rat into a coachman, and lizards into footmen through her magic. Then, she turns Cinderella's rags into a beautiful gown. She makes her dressing complete with a pair of glass slippers, delicate but beautiful. The Godmother warns her that the spells would be broken unless she returns before midnight. Then the Godmother tells her to enjoy the ball and sends her to it.

The entire court at the ball is impressed by Cinderella. The Prince is entranced by Cinderella's beauty and is always at her side. Her sisters are unable to recognize her. Cinderella returns back before midnight and thanks her Godmother. The sisters too return home and are keeping talking about the charming girl at the event.

The Prince holds another ball next evening and Cinderella again attends the event with the help of her Godmother. The Prince becomes more attracted towards her and she enjoys the ball very well. But this time she can not keep track of time and leaves the place exactly at midnight. In the hurry, she loses one of her glass slippers as well. The Prince tries to search her but can find only her glass slipper. The Prince keeps the slipper and decides to marry the girl who wore the slipper. Cinderella keeps the other slipper.

The Prince tries to search the beautiful girl by trying the slipper on all the women. When the Prince comes to Cinderella's house, her stepsisters try to win over the prince. But the slipper won't fit them. Cinderella wants to try the slippers but is taunted by her sisters. But the slippers fit perfectly and Cinderella shows the other slippers as well. The Prince is happy and the sisters apologize her for all the cruelties. Cinderella forgives them. She marries the Prince and starts living in the palace. Her stepsisters are also married by two lords.

The moral of the story is that beauty is important, but not more than graciousness.

There are many versions of the story. The oldest version comes from Ancient Egypt. In the story, when Cinderella was taking bath, an eagle picks up one of her sandals and drops into the lap of the king of Memphis. The king is entranced by the beauty and shape of the sandals and sends his men to search all over the country for the girl who wore the sandals. She is found and brought to the king who marries her.
