Months before the Sesame Street's 37th season debut, the official announcement of Abby Cadabby had appeared in TV Guide. Soon after, a press kit was also issued. But even before that rumors had started floating on the 'net about Abby.

An interview was scheduled with Abby on The Today Show on NBC on 10 August 2006, but it was preempted by NBC Special Report" coverage of the 2006 transatlantic aircraft plot. She did appear for a short chat with Ann Curry and Lester Holt, only for a few minutes on 14th August. On 11 August 2006, she was to be featured as ABC World News "Person of the Week", but was pre-empted by Hurricane Katrina. She was, however, featured on the 18th August broadcast and the teaser was "Femininity comes to Sesame Street".

Abby has also appeared on NPR in the August 11 edition of All Things Considered. In the 2007 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Abby had her own balloon made after her. In the 2007-2009 tour of Sesame Street Live show Where Elmo Grows Up, Abby is also featured.

Its not that Abby has received only praises. Abby has been criticized for her apparent over saturation of Sesame Street's airtime by some of the longtime fans of Sesame Street. Some call her "homewrecker" and compare her to the likes of Paris Hilton, Anna Nicole Smith, and Lindsay Lohan. Some are disturbed by her replacing Zoe and becoming Elmo's new best friend. Remember that Zoe is Elmo's long-time best friend.

But most of the Sesame Street's fans are ecstatic about the new female addition to the gang. Previously, the male to female ratio was disproportionate and this was mentioned in an article in TV Guide in 2009 too.
